Rapid advancements have occurred in the fields of Body & Neuro Interventional Radiology over the last few years, in which patients are treated using minimally invasive techniques. Interventional radiology procedures (pinhole surgery) are highly sophisticated advanced medical techniques that often replace complicated and painful open surgical procedures. They are generally much easier for the patient because they involve no large incisions, they are less risky, almost painless and have markedly shorter recovery times. These procedures are usually done under image guidance (DSA, USG, X-ray, CT, MRI).
|
|
Advantages
of Interventional Radiology |
|
• Most procedures can be performed on Day Care or
require only a short hospital stay.
• Most of the procedures are done under local anesthesia
with the patient awake or mildly sedated.
• Risk, pain and recovery time are often significantly
reduced.
• The procedures are sometimes less expensive than surgery
or other alternatives.
|
|
Types of image-guided radiological
interventions available |
Gynecology |
•
Uterine Fibroid Embolization for fibroids as an
alternative to hysterectomy/myomectomy.
• Uterine artery embolization for post partum
hemorrhage.
• Infertility: - Hystersalpinography and
recanalization for proximal occlusion for fallopian
tube blockage. |
|
| Hemodialysis catheter insertion and graft/fistulae management |
• Image(USG) guided insertion of tunnelled or non-tunnelled dialysis catheter (Internal jugular and Femoral)
• Arterio-Venous fistula / graft angioplasty and thrombolysis.
• Central venoplasty and venoplasty of other veins in cases of AV graft / fistulae stenosis. |
